Skilled-Graduate Visa

To be eligible for the Skilled-Graduate Visa, the primary applicant must be able to satisfy the basic threshold criteria including the 2 year study requirement rule. This is a temporary visa that allows applicants to remain in Australia for a further 18 months following the completion of their course of study in order to satisfy criteria needed to become eligible for Australian permanent residency.

Because this is only a temporary visa, many applicants make the mistake of underestimating the requirements needed for a successful application. Unlike other temporary visas, the legislation underlying the Skilled-Graduate Visa is complicated and the Department of Immigration does not provide second chances to applicants who fail to provide appropriate proof of having satisfied specific criteria relating to English language ability, education, skills, health and character with the application.

Please note that if an application for the Skilled-Graduate Visa is refused, the Department of Immigration will ask that you leave Australia within 28 days and you will no longer be eligible to make an onshore application for Australian permanent residency without undertaking additional study in Australia. Given the serious problems associated with having this visa refused, we recommend that you consult with an Agent to discuss your application before proceeding.

More detailed information regarding this visa can be obtained through the Australian Migration Advisory.
