who is this visa for?

These visas are for persons being sponsored by an employer to live and work in Australia.


Employer Sponsored Visas - Information for Employers


Employer Sponsored visas include:

  • Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482):
  • The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) visa is a temporary visa that allows you to work in Australia for up to 4 years. You must be sponsored by an eligible Employer however, the position may be located anywhere in Australia.

    After you have held the subclass 482 visa for 2 years, it is also possible to transition up to the permanent subclass 186 visa through the Temporary Resident Transition (TRT) stream however you will need the same Employer to sponsor you again in order to obtain this visa.

  • Employer Nomination Scheme Visa (Subclass 186)
  • The Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186) is a permanent visa that allows you to live in Australia indefinitely. You must be nominated by an eligible Employer to fill a skilled position however, the position may be located anywhere in Australia. As part of the nomination agreement, you are expected to work for the Employer for a minimum period of two years.

  • Skilled EMployer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 494)
  • The Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 495 visa) is provisional visa that allows you to live and work in regional Australia for up to 5 years. You must be sponsored by an eligible Employer and the position must be located in a regional area of Australia.

    After you have held the subclass 494 visa for 3 years and are able to demonstrate that you have to lived and worked in the regional area for that period, you will then be eligible to apply for the permanent subclass 191 visa. Importantly, the subclass 191 does not require employer sponsorship.
