The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) allows an Applicant to live and work in Australia for up to 4 years. The Applicant can work anywhere in Australia however they must be nominated by an eligible Employer.
TEMPORARY SKILL SHORTAGE VISA (SUBCLASS 482) – INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482) enables an Applicant to be nominated to live and work in Australia for up to 4 years. The visa also allows the Applicant to add their dependents and provides a potential pathway to permanent residency through the Temporary Resident Transition stream offered under the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186).
To satisfy the requirements for a Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482), the Primary Applicant must be able to demonstrate that they:
- 1. Have a positive Skills Assessment for an occupation listed on the Medium to Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSS) or Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL);
- 2. Have completed at least 2 years relevant full-time work in the last 5 years;
- 3. Are eligible for registration or licencing if required for the occupation;
- 3. Have the required level of English:
-   - Short Term Stream: IELTS overall band score of 5.0 with a score of at least 4.5 in each of the four test components.
-   - Medium Term Stream: IELTS score of of at least 5.0 for all four test components.
- 5. Have an Employment Contract offering full-time work for the period of the visa – the nominated salary must be equal to (or above) $70,000 per annum (based on a 38 week);
- 6. Have private health insurance for themselves and any dependent family members.

Obligations as a Temporary Work (Subclass 482) Visa Holder
Holders of this visa must continue to work with the sponsoring employer in the occupation for which they were nominated;
Visa holders must not cease work with their employer for more than 90 days;
Visa holders need to hold health insurance or reciprocal health rights for Medicare.
